Flyers beat Thrashers with late goal by Downie

It was was a very competitive game and win by the Flyers, they climbed back into sole possession of first place of the Atlantic Division and are two points ahead of the charging Pittsburgh Penguins.

Nittymaki made some outstanding saves against a very potent Atlanta offense. Nitty’s career record against the Thrashers is 8-0.The Flyers top ranked Power Play continued to be red hot with two goals. Mike Richards and Mike Knuble were responsible for those. Richards’ goal was the result of a great shot from the point. Steve Downie’s goal, an even strenght goal, came with 4 and a half minutes in the game. It was the result of a great pass by Scott Hartnell from behind the net.

Jason Smith put a great hit on Mark Recchi behind the net.
