In between the first and second periods of tonight’s Flyers game at the Wachovia Center against the Washington Capitals, former Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall was inducted into the Flyers Hall of Fame. Hextall was joined on the ice for the ceremony by Flyers announcer Lou Nolan, his family, and former teammates Dave Poulin and Mark Howe.
Ron Hextall was the epitome of the Flyers grit and determination in net. He was never afraid to mix it up with any player. His fierce competitiveness endeared him to the Philadelphia faithful.Hextall won the Conn Smyth and Vezina trophies in 1987 and is credited as the first goaltender to score a goal in a regular season and a playoff game. He is now the assistant general manager of the Los Angeles Kings.
His enshrinement in the Flyers Hall of Fame solidifies his legacy as one of the greatest to ever wear Orange and Black
