Flyers Can’t Keep Up With Tampa Barrage

February 14th, 2008 by James

One of the hottest tandems in the NHL grounded the Flyers in what is their season high 5th straight loss in a row. The line of Vincent Lecavalier, Martin St. Louis, and Vaclav Prospal accounted for 2 of Tampa’s goals and 5 total points.

The Flyers came out strong in this game, and played a good game for the most point. However, Tampa Bay was able to capitalize on giveaways and penalties.

For the Flyers, the checking line of Steve Downie, Riley Cote, and Jim Dowd put a great deal of offensive pressure on the Lightning early in the game. But, 5 penalties in a row prevented any consistency in rolling lines and their presence on the ice.

Steve Downie had a great short handed goal. He stepped out the penalty box as the Flyers went from 2 men down to just one. Mike Richards tipped the puck out of the Philadelphia zone to Downie to create a two on one chance. Downie used Richards as decoy as he took the shot and scored.

Called up yesterday from the Phantoms, Ryan Parent played tonight with Derian Hatcher scratched with fluid in his knee. Hatcher is listed as day-to-day. Parent is a promising young defensemen who looked very good in tonight’s game.

NHL officiating once again proved what a joke it is with inconsistent calls. The Flyers were called for 5 penalties, while Tampa Bay was called for one, but there were several infractions by Lightning players. The only Lightning penalty was called with 7 and a half minutes left in the 3 period. The most frustrating thing for a hockey fan, no matter what team you root for, is the morons running this League and the inconsistent idiots officiating the games.
