The Flyers are now in a complete free fall having lost a season high 7 in a row, the last two being a home and home series with Montreal. The roster is decimated with injuries, with Gagne, Lupul, Downie, Hatcher, and now Tolpeko all on the shelf.
Last night, the team played strong against the Canadiens for most of the game. But when the team did make mistakes, Montreal made them pay. When the Flyers had good pressure and chances, they couldn’t finish.
The team needs to find answers quick because while they have been losing, teams like the Penguins, Capitals, Rangers and Lightning have been winning and climbing the rankings of the Eastern Conference. The Penguins especially have been on tear, ironically since Sidney Crosby injured himself and has been out of the lineup.
Just having a strong effort no longer works as an excuse. You can come out every night with a strong effort, but if you don’t finish, you don’t win. In fact, at the amount I’m paying for tickets, you sure as hell better come out with a strong effort.
It was also Fan Appreciation Night with giveaways galore. They gave away everything from HDTVs, 17” Notebook Computers to Nintendo Wiis and Sony PS3s. The top set of giveaways were the actual jerseys off the players’ backs.
