For the first time in 3 weeks, the Flyers looked to win a game. It was a game that they dictated play and held the lead. Something completely different from what we have seen lately. They also played a very physical game, with Scottie Upshall being a one man wrecking crew. But with 3 seconds left in the third period, the Flyers were unable to clear the puck and the Florida Panthers were able to tie the game. The Panthers then scored in the overtime session to complete the comeback.
This was a very well played game for the Flyers and it looked like it might be a turning point for 9 game slide. This was a very difficult loss.
When things are going wrong, everything goes wrong. Mike Richards, who is the Flyers leading scorer and one of the teams lawyers, was hurt late in the third period. Pushing toward the net, he went down and his skate caught the ice, pulling his leg back. He tore his hamstring, and the Flyers have announced that he is expected to miss three weeks.
This loss is more difficult to stomach that the loss to the Panthers. Richards does everything for the team. He leads the team in scoring, quarterbacks the powerplay and kills penalties.
