Flyers Beat Buffalo, Break 10 Game Winless Streak

February 26th, 2008 by James

The Philadelphia Flyers battled back after a pathetic start against the Buffalo Sabres. In a ten minute period in the first period, the Flyers gave up 3 consecutive goals to the Sabres. During the first 15 minutes of the game, they let Buffalo dictate the game. However, after the third Sabres’ goal, the Flyers decided to start playing.

After their third goal, it appeared the Sabres began to sit back and Flyers took advantage. Two quick goals by Jeff Carter and Scott Hartnell pulled the Flyers within one before the end of the first. The Flyers kept the pressure on Buffalo throughout the game. With 5 minutes left in the third, RJ Umberger scored to tie the game.

It all came down to the shootout to decide the game. With the shootout tied, the last shooter for the Flyers was Danny Briere who has had difficulty in scoring as of late. With a pretty move, Briere put the puck behind Buffalo netminder Ryan Miller to win it for the Flyers.

For the first time in 3 weeks, this team has shown the ability to come back after getting down. This game could prove to be a turning point as the season comes into the homestretch.
