The Flyers Rangers rivalry is showing no signs of dying anytime soon, especially this season with both teams hunting for a playoff spot. This game had everything you would expect from an Atlantic Division matchup, including 6 goals in the first period, 3 by each team, and both goaltenders getting replaced.

The first period was non-stop, back and forth action with both teams exchanging goals. Vaclav Prospal scored his 30th goal of the season and first as a Flyer since being re-acquired.
The second period started with the Rangers pulling “King” Henrik Lundqvist for Stephen Valiquette. The Flyers decided to stay with starting goaltender Antero Nittymaki until a quick second period goal by the Rangers that put them up 4-3. Both Valiquette and Marty Biron slowed the pace of the game down and the score remained unchanged until Jeff Carter tied it with his second goal of the game.
The was an incredible game to watch as both teams knew that playoff positioning was on the line. The Flyers played strong and Jeff Carter continued his torrid goal scoring pace. Nittymaki looked shaky and was giving up big rebounds, some resulting in goals.
The NHL continues to insult the intelligence of its fans by the choice of broadcasting as well as telling them shootouts are a great way to solve tie hockey games, especially ones with playoff implications.
