There is absolutely nothing good to talk about with this game today against the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Flyers came out flat again today, and seemed like they were sleepwalking through the entire 60 minutes. The Penguins were buzzing in the Flyers zone what seemed like almost the entire game.
Today’s game against Pittsburgh, yesterday’s game against Boston and the two games earlier this week were critical for the Flyers and playoff position. However, it seems someone forgot to tell the players. I can understand the fatigue factor, that this was the second back to back set of games for Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh has been off for 3 days. But it is still a pathetic excuse. If you are a professional and know the importance of the last 4 games, you find a way to overcome that obstacle.
Penguins coach Michel Therrien is a coward and a hypocrite. Last season, when the Penguins beat the Flyers in all 8 games, two of those wins were by the score of 8-2. Earlier this season when the Flyers beat the Penguins by the same score, Therrien had the audacity to blast the Flyers saying that they were disrespectful toward Pittsburgh by running up the score. Today, Therrien did just that. Did he forget his own comments? With the game well in hand, he still had his best players, like Malkin who had a 4 point game, out there pushing and trying to score at every chance. With the score at 7-1 with 4 minutes left in the third period, he had his best players out on the power play. Don’t worry Therrien, Malkin and the rest of Shittsburgh, payback is a bitch.
To continue with the bad news, RJ Umberger left the game today with an injury and didn’t return. More details when they become available. The rumors right now about Derian Hatcher’s injury from yesterday’s game is that he suffered a hairline fracture when blocked a shot, and will be out for the rest of season.
