Maybe We Shouldn’t Have Done That

The management of the Ottawa Senators seems to have good ideas, just some poor execution. The Ottawa Sun is reporting that they put up a mural as part of making over the hallway that leads to the dressing rooms. It shows the Senators shaking hands with the Pittsburgh Penguins after eliminating them from the first round of the playoffs last year. However, this mural was setup right outside the visiting team locker room. The same locker room the Penguins used in Game 3 last night and will use again tomorrow night.

Many teams put up stuff like this in celebration of the team’s history, past successes, and the organization’s culture. But, who made the decision to put it right outside the visiting locker room? Didn’t they think that putting it right there might come back and bite them in the ass? C’mon, athletes are some of the most superstitious people out there. Just look at the playoff beard tradition.

The Senators may have reached the Stanley Cup Finals last year. They may have started this season hot. But they have been in complete disarray since the middle of the year. Instead of a symbol of the team’s success, it will soon come to remind the players of this year’s first round embarrassment. In fact, many of the players are already embarrassed by it.
