Two weeks ago, the Washington Post’s resident hockey novice Mike Wise put together an inflammatory column about the Flyers, their fans, and the city of Philadelphia. Although Wise later commented that the article was meant to be a piece of satire, the tone seemed anything but satirical. Many took offense to the article, and sent hundreds of emails and phone calls in the direction of the Washington Post. In fact, the Flyers printed copies to give to every fan coming into the Wachovia Center for game four of the first round series against the Washington Capitals. However, the Washington Post would not grant the Flyers permission to reproduce the column. One of the comments by Wise was:
The fans wore orange instead of the Capitals’ red, and many of the women and children looked as if they could work security for Megadeth.
The Flyers have decided to have a little fun with this line and asked Megadeth and frontman Dave Mustaine to record a few greetings for the Philadelphia faithful as well as put together the logo you see above. You can find the larger here at the Flyers website.

For a great analysis of Mr. Wise’s column, head on over to Stuart Scott’s Eye.
