This has to be one of my first off topic posts. I just have to say how fed up I am with Internet Explorer 7. First, I use a Mac and I run my business on a Mac, so I have no exposure to Internet Explorer. I have Windows XP set up on my Intel Mac just so I can run a piece of client specific software. Other than that, I spend the rest of my time working in Mac OS X. That includes work done on this site. Other than one piece of software, everything else I need runs better in OS X.
I have recently done some upgrades to the back-end of the site as well as to the theme. The other day I went to see how everything looked in Internet Explorer and was appalled. The site looked like it had been slashed to death. In particular, part of the sidebar was ripped and moved down to the footer and the fonts and colors were wrong.
Everything appears fine in both Safari and Firefox in Mac OS X. Firefox for Windows renders everything correctly. But, maybe there is something wrong with my code that is tripping up Internet Explorer and not the others, I think to myself.
So, after two days of destroying and rebuilding the code for the sidebar from scratch, and very little change seen in IE 7, I’ve decided that I have had it with Internet Explorer. The site looks fine in Safari, Firefox and Opera, both in Windows and Mac OS X. Why? Because Internet Explorer does not adhere to web standards. They established these standards with a purpose, so those designing sites can know that no matter the browser, the experience will be the same. If you’re still using IE, my suggestion to you, check out Firefox.
