Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau decided to bench struggling goaltender Carey Price and start Jaroslav Halak for game 4 on Wednesday in an attempt to change the Canadiens’ fortunes and even the round 2 series with Philadelphia Flyers at 2 games a piece. Instead, he got the same results with a different goaltender and Philadelphia took a 3 games to 1 series lead. After the game, the question for Carbonneau was who would be the starter for game 5.
According to TSN, Carbonneau has announced that he will be going with Carey Price tomorrow night. Carbonneau stated,
“He deserves a second shot,” Canadiens coach Guy Carbonneau told the Canadian Press. “I think in the last few days he had time to calm down and refocus and get ready for another long stretch.”
Price, a rookie goaltender, took the starting job in Montreal from Christobal Huet, who was later traded to Washington. In this year’s playoffs, Price is 5-5, with a 2.55 GAA and .909 save percentage.
