Keith Primeau Takes Out The Penguins In The 8th Period

May 7th, 2008 by James

Keith Primeau Game Winning Goal 5 OT Game Flyers vs. PenguinsWith the Flyers and Penguins set to start the Eastern Conference finals in a few days, I keep thinking back to May 4 - 5, 2000. That was start date, and eventual end date, of game 4 between the Flyers and Penguins in the Eastern Conference Semifinals. The game was tied at 1-1 and would remain that way until 12.01 of the 5th overtime period when Keith Primeau would score to end the hockey marathon. I watched every minute of the game and stayed up until the very end, even though I had class the next morning. I still get goosebumps every time I see that goal.

That win tied the series at 2-2 and the Flyers eventually went on to the win the series. That was the last time Philadelphia and Pittsburgh met in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was back in 2000. It was game four that went to a 5th overtime, 8 total periods of play. I still get excited thinking about Keith Primeau’s game winning goal. Check it out here. [...]
