Player Traded For Equipment

May 24th, 2008 by James

Prairie Sticks Bat
Often times, you’ll hear someone joke, saying that they would trade a certain player for a bag of pucks, bucket of balls, or some other piece of equipment. Well, from this week’s You Can’t Make This Stuff Up File, a minor league pitcher was traded for bats, “10 Prairie Sticks Maple Bats, double-dipped black, 34-inch, C243 style” to be exact.

John Odom had just signed on with the Calgary Vipers of the Golden Baseball League, but had trouble with immigration at the US-Canadian border. Since Odom couldn’t join his team, in stepped the Laredo Broncos and picked up the pitcher in exchange for the bats.

Laredo General Manager Jose Melendez was quoted as saying “They just wanted some bats, good bats - maple bats.”
