The Detroit Red Wings picked right back up where they left off in game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals. From the opening face-off to the final buzzer, the Red Wings picked apart the Pittsburgh Penguins every step of the way. It wasn’t until 12 minutes into the first period, on a power play, that the Penguins were able to get their first shot on Detroit netminder Chris Osgood.

After game 1 Penguins coach Michel Therrien shuffled his lines and Gary Roberts made his return to the lineup. The result was the same as game one, complete domination by Detroit and another shutout, this time to the tune of 3-0.

Make sure to watch the highlights to see Detroit’s third goal scored by Valtteri Filppula. Just an amazing goal.

The Penguins showed how terrible they are at losing by taking runs at Detroit players as the game neared its end. It started about midway through the third period with coward tough guy Roberts sucker punching Johan Franzen as he skated by. Franzen returned this game to the Detroit lineup after being out since the previous round with concussion symptoms. Ray Whitney followed up with the butt-end of his stick to the face of another Detroit player. Petr Sykora then topped it off by taking out Osgood behind the Detroit net. He then pretended that he didn’t do anything. What a classy bunch of guys. I guess we found out how Pittsburgh would handle adversity and being down in a series.
