Nothing like a rainy afternoon in the city of brotherly love to watch
a close ball game. How close? Imagine sitting down in the movie
theater on your first date with a beautiful girl, then noticing your
seventh grade math teacher is sitting right behind you.
In a short five game series ahead, hold your breath and keep your
fingers crossed for the Philadelphia Phillies. It’s all on the line
in a win or loose championship series.
With the first one in the bag, the Phillies have to do better if they
want to sweep the Brewers. Milwaukee is a dangerous team, not the
best team, but a serious threat.
This afternoon, we saw great pitching control with Cole Hamels. The
fielding did well behind a pitcher that should get more credit for
wins. Hamels provided big innings, and going the distance meant the
team didn’t have to depend on a somewhat shaky bullpen, leaving one
inning for Lidge to close it down in the middle of a down pour.
Striking out Prince Fielder was a bonus worth replaying.
The Phils still need to see action over the plate. The three runs
they scored should have been six. Opportunities lost as men were left
standing on base way too many times watching the third out. Not much
hustle coming from a tired team.
Depending on errors and walks is not the way to win games in the post-
season. We’ll need to see Jayson Werth, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy
Rollins contribute more if the Phils plan on staying around in October.
