John LeClair Tapped for US Hockey Hall of Fame

July 28th, 2009 by James

John LeClair

The United States Hockey Hall of Fame announced its inductee Class of 2009 and among the names is John LeClair.

LeClair, one of the Flyers greats, played in Philadelphia for ten years. Shortly after arriving with Eric Desjardins from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for Mark Recchi, he was set up on a line with Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg. This combination formed one of the most feared lines in the NHL during the 1990’s, the Legion of Doom.

LeClair was the first American born hockey player to have three consecutive 50 goal seasons in the NHL. He scored 333 goals and 643 points with the Flyers, putting him at seventh on the teams all-time lists.

From CSNPhilly.com

“My playing days in Philadelphia were great, as were the fans,” LeClair said. “Obviously, I enjoyed most of my success when I was a member of the Flyers. It was a great time and a great time in my career. When I think back at hockey I think I am most associated with the Philadelphia Flyers.”

John LeClair was always one of my favorite Flyers and it’s great to see him recognized like this. I wish he could have retired a Flyer.

With LeClair, former Flyer Tony Amonte, Tom Barrasso, Frank Zamboni, and the 1998 women’s US Olympic hockey team.
