Remember when the Flyers debuted the original black jerseys during the 1997 – 98 season and how it became the primary road jersey (then home jersey) replacing the orange jersey in 2000? Well, it seems like they are planning to do it again, according to icethetics.
Last week Luca Sbisa was sent back to his junior team. Not sure how I feel about this. Sure, it’s better for him to go back there where he will get significant playing time instead of being a healthy scratch night after night with the Flyers. But, for an 18 year old first round draft pick that played pretty well at the NHL level, which is going to give him the better challenge and chance to develop? With Scott Hartnell’s goal Saturday in Boston, it is the 4th consecutive season that he’s had 20 or more goals. Claude Giroux is playing well and continuing to improve, but his play is showing some signs of growing pains. This isn’t a bad thing and the little things he is learning he probably wouldn’t learn with the Phantoms and the AHL level. Ryan Parent has looked very good in his return to the Flyers. Last week Comcast-Spectacor announced the sale of the Phantoms to the Brooks Group of Pittsburgh. This group owns several minor league franchises as well as has interests in the Pittsburgh Pirates and Penguins. Couldn’t that be seen as a conflict of interest? Rumors started swirling on Friday that the Rangers are interested in the services of one Sean Avery. Sources are saying there were several internal discussions amongst management, coaches, and players. Hey, if he “helps” the Rangers much like he “helped” the Stars, I’m all for it. Jeff Carter’s second goal yesterday against Atlanta was his 100th career NHL goal. |

A) The Flyers don’t have to choose to send their players to this new outfit, they could be putting a team in Allentown or Glen Falls. If they did decide to go with the Brooks Group, they would still decide who coaches and plays for the franchise.
B) Did Avery really help the NYR last year.…they sucked then, and still suck now. They just chip the puck around the boards and play for shootouts…I too, am for the NYR acquisition of that ponce.
C) Harts is not done yet…he’s good for 33 this year…mark it down.
D) You should not be conflicted about Sbisa. Sure he could be down here absorbing, but even when he was playing he wasn’t getting any ST time…no PPs or critical PK time. If he is to be a #1 D-man in the league one day, he will have to be able to play 25 minutes a night in all situations. His 1st night back up in Lethbridge, I read he had 2 A, and the GWG in OT…dominating can also be good for one’s confidence…he will be back next year, and will be here to stay.
That’s saying something because we’ll have Kimmo, Bray, Parent, and either Jones and Carle, or maybe a Jay Bo…either way, this D is set. Especially with Bourdon, Marshall down in the minors making noise.
